Top 3 training resources for IT

Over the years I have searched for training materials to aid me through the progression of my career path in IT, that is easy to pick up and put down and most importantly - affordable.

Below are my top five

I have had many discussions with others looking to progress in their IT path not take advantage of what CompTIA has to offer.  If you're just starting out, CompTIA is the "Computing Technology Industry Association" which the leading provider of vendor-nuetral IT certifications in the world (right from their site :) ). In short, this means that the certifications taken with CompTIA are standardized and recognized world wide while not favouriting one vendor to another.

CompTIA provides you with a clear certification path to your end goal, and maintaining focus on that goal is important! CompTIA also has simulative testing identical to the testing to earn your cert, so you can go in to that testing center confident in what to expect.

If you have yet to dive into everything CompTIA has to offer, I suggest you start here first.

Udemy

Udemy is an online training resource offering video training modules that cover a vast topic range in almost every aspect of IT. With Udemy, you purchase training courses individually and to top it off, Udemy offers a 30 day money back guarantee. That's right, if you're not happy with the course material, instructor or quality of training, you receive a full refund.

Courses can be completed comfortably from your computer or Udemy offers a very functional app for Android and iOS that allow you to download course material for offline viewing. Upon completion, Udemy offers a "Certificate of completion", though don't feel it to have accredited recognition of any sort.

Truthfully, my opinion on Udemy is strong, however; the pricing model is extremely strange at times. Some courses are $199.99, but go onsale frequently as low as $13.99. Either way, it's still an awesome resource - just favourite courses of interest and wait for the sale.

ITProTv

ITProTv took me a while to commit to, but about a year or so ago I signed up through a promotional offer that made sense. It is so content rich on all sorts of topics they dub it 'binge-worthy IT training", which it really is!

Around the time of writting this I was actually in the process of canceling this subscription. Being off since March, I had to assess what were necessities, and while ITProT IS great to have, I did have other training materials available to keep me busy.
To my surprise after submitting my subscription cancelation they had reached out reconizing the global struggle and offered to keep my account active applying credits to my account.

NOW THAT, IS CUSTOMER SUPPORT.

ITProTv is overall a powerhouse for training material, but is also a super group of considerate people and I will continue to support them in the future.

Pocket Prep

Pocket Prep is a great resource for prepping and brief random testing. An app for iOS and Android, Pocket Prep is a testing platform that allows you to test on the fly.  Pocket Prep offers Questions of the day, quick 10 questions and custom tests on topic specific study areas while tracking your testing matrics so you know where you stand and areas in need of study.

I have utilized Pocket Prep for the A+, Network+ and now working with their Security+ and I can say with confidence that although a smidge pricier than it used to be, Pocket Prep is a great resource for on the fly study.
